A couple of years ago, I lived in the UK for a while. My best friends still do, and I visit 2-3 times a year. After the Brexit referendum I started to talk to my friends about politics, discovering that most of them voted to leave the EU. This was quite shocking for me, as most of them did not have any solid rationale behind their decision.
This series explores post-referendum Britain. It focuses especially on Yorkshire and the West Midlands, as well as their surrounding areas, where the Brexit vote was strongest and shall have the most impact going forward. In order to gain a better understanding of “Britishness”, I am observing the subliminal marks left by Brexit in order to investigate whether there is a connection between the culture of “Britishness” and the drive for independence from the EU, and whether this exists within my circle of friends and family.
